The quiet village of Pinehall, hidden within the Forest of Tharlin, is shaken by the murder of Lord Vellioro Drayl. Elpyra Morrovale, a prominent tiefling apothecary and the dead nobleman’s former lover, is charged with the crime after his poisoned body is discovered bearing wounds from a ceremonial dagger marked with her insignia. As Father Liptis of the Church of the Divine Balance oversees the trial, the persuasive prosecutor Flavio Lemeel paints a picture of passion, jealousy, and greed.

The characters must determine whether the apparent evidence reveals a killer or conceals a carefully orchestrated frame-up.

Appointed to investigate the case, the party must uncover clues across Pinehall and its surrounding wilderness. From examining the body at the Shrine of the Redeemer to searching the lord’s manor and retracing his last hunt through the Glade of Silverhoofs, every discovery could change the course of the trial. Questioning witnesses, confronting the unpredictable Narthel Windoll, and investigating sinister spores and falsified testimony gradually reveal evidence of a far-reaching plot.
